With a month left for the election to the Sohiong constituency, political parties are expecting a good show of power.
Will the NPP be able to retain the prestigious seat? or Will UDP get the support of sympathy votes? BJP too is keeping its hope high.
United Democratic Party chief Metbah Lyngdoh on Monday said his party is confident to win the Sohiong constituency.
The adjourned poll to Sohiong will be held on May 10.
Speaking to reporters, Lyngdoh said, “We are very confident that this time even from Sohiong constituency after the adjourned poll was announced by the election commission and now adjournment date has been fixed by the election commission so we will move ahead and till now whatever information that I have and whatever inputs that I have and received from the ground that things are going in favour of our candidate.”
The UDP is fielding (L) HDR Lyngdoh’s nephew Synsharlang Kupar Lyngdoh as its official candidate.
Lyngdoh said that definitely the sympathy will be to the advantage of the party as most of the people of Sohiong want to show gratefulness to late HDR Lyngdoh for his contribution to the constituency as a former MLA.
Meanwhile, senior BJP legislator and cabinet Minister AL Hek said the party will put its best to ensure that good results come.
“The entire BJP from the state president to the national leaders will come and we will try to put our best to ensure that the BJP candidate wins from that constituency,” Hek said.
BJP state president Ernest Mawrie said the party has given tickets to a qualified candidate.
“People will understand that if they vote for the party’s candidate it will be an advantage for the state and the party as well,” he added.
Interestingly, the ruling NPP also expressed confidence that they will be able to retain the prestigious seat.
