Residents in most areas of Shillong are likely to experience power disruptions on Saturdays due to maintenance work, Power Minister AT Mondal confirmed.
Speaking to the media, Mondal clarified, “This is not load shedding. There is a disruption of power in some locations because of maintenance work. During this dry season, we get an opportunity to ensure that our system is in place. Wherever changes or augmentations are required, we undertake them during this time.”
He further explained, “From now onwards, you’ll notice some power disruptions, especially on Saturdays, as we need to carry out repair work. Substations are facing some overloading issues, and we are working to augment them. But let me reiterate, this is not load shedding.”
The minister assured that efforts have been made to prevent power shortages during the festive season, saying, “We have worked in such a way that there is no shortage during Christmas and New Year. Additionally, we are ensuring that students do not face any issues during their exam periods.”
He also emphasized that disruptions may occur due to unforeseen issues, such as transformer failures, conductor problems, or tree falls. “As of now, we are well-placed in terms of energy availability in the state,” he added.
