Present terms of KHADC, JHADC extended

The Meghalaya Cabinet today approved the proposal to extend the present terms of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) and the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) for a period of six months.

Informing this after the cabinet meeting Deputy Chief minister Prestone Tynsong who is also the Minister in-charge District Council Affairs said that since the terms of both the Councils will be expired on 5th March 2024, the extension will be effective from that date.

“The Chairman and the members of the delimitation committee of both the district councils had requested the executive committee of the District council who further sought time of six months from the State Government , therefore the Government has granted and approved the proposal as sought for,” Tynsong said.

 

Furthermore he added that the state Government will send the recommendations to the Governor for his approval and accordingly and necessary order in the matter.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma in his social media page wrote, “Cabinet today approved the proposal to extend the present terms of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) and the Jaiñtia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) for a period of 6 months. Since the terms of both the Councils will be expired on 5th March 2024, the extension will be effective from that date.”

It may be mentioned that last year (2023) the Governor had granted the constitution of the delimitation committee of both the district councils of KHADC and JHADC and both the delimitation committees are on the job as per the prescribed guidelines.
