Principals of Lady Keane college, Women college in search committee to identify new Women Panel Chief

Social Welfare Minister Paul Lyngdoh on Friday said a search committee has been constituted to identify the names for the post of chairperson of the Chairperson of the State Women Commission.

Talking to media, Lyngdoh said, the search committee will have both official as well as non official members.

“I have already decided to constitute a search committee comprising of both official and non official members, the official members are the important officials of the government of Meghalaya and the non official members are drawn from colleges for instance principal of Women College and Lady Keane College,” the social Welfare Minister announced.

Asked about the chairperson of women’s commission Phidalia Toi, he said, the chairperson of the commission should be above political affiliations. He also pointed out that Toi remained abstained from 12 important meetings and there was an election complaint against her.

“I have gone through the file, a major portion of her term she was not she was not turning up for important meetings infact abstained from as many as 12 meetings of the commission and there was a case of her being linked to a political campaign,” He said.

The MDA II Spokesperson further said, “It is mandatory that a person once she takes over as chairman of the commission she should stay away from active politics.”

Asked, he said “We want a search committee to complete its task fast and however, if there is a need for stop gap arrangement that will be considered. “

The Minister further said he has no personal animosity against her.
