Pro-Inner Line Permit (ILP) groups on Sunday demanded the Conrad K Sangma-led state government to inform the people of the state on the outcome of the meeting held between the Union Home Minister Amit Shah and the cabinet ministers with regards to the ILP demand.
The demand was made by the four NGOs which include the Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People, Khasi Students Union, Hynniewtrep National Youth Front and Ri Bhoi Youth Federation.
“Implementation of ILP is a demand of the people of Meghalaya. The state government should not maintain silence or attempt to hide what it had discussed with the Union Home Minister,” FKJGP president Welbirth Rani said in a statement.
He said the four NGOs also expressed strong opposition against the statement made by Amit Shah that the Centre aimed at connecting the North Eastern states with railway by 2024.
“The people of the state want ILP not railway,” Rani said while maintained that the NGOs will not allow the government to introduce railway lines till such time ILP is implemented in Meghalaya.
