Prof. Badaplin War of NEHU Khasi Dept conferred Padma Shri


Prof. Badaplin War, Professor, Khasi Department North Eastern Hill University has been awarded Padma Shri by the President of India on the eve of the Republic Day.

She is the lone recipient from the state this year.

She has been conferred with the prestigious award for her contribution in the fields of literature and education.

She joined the Department of Khasi, North-Eastern Hill University as Lecturer in 1983, as Reader in 1996, as Professor in 2001.

War was one among the 107 Padma Shri Awardees.


A press note issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs said the awards are announced on the occasion of Republic Day every year. These awards are conferred by the President of India at ceremonial functions which are held at Rashtrapati Bhawan usually around March/April every year.


The other Padma Awards include 4 Padma Vibhushan and 17 Padma Bhushan.


34 of the awardees are women and the list also includes 10 persons from the category of Foreigners/NRI/PIO/OCI and 13 Posthumous awardees.
