Alleging that the people from the pain belt of Garo Hills continues to be neglected by the state Government, the opposition TMC legislator from Rajabala constituency Dr. Mizanur Rahman Kazi said he will write to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma for the creation of embankment from Rajpur area, Phulbari to Magurmari.
Talking to mediapersons in Shillong, the Rajabala legislator said the flood in Garo Hills is a recurrent problem, so it is not a matter of giving assistance when the flood comes; but it is the matter of preventing the flood.
“There was an initial proposal for (creation of) an embankment which would have really helped us. It would have helped us in terms of our finances, also in terms of the quality of life also, but nobody so far has paid attention to those demands. I request the government of the day to kindly see the difficulties of the people of the plain-built area and to consider making that embankment, which will be really beneficial and it will it will add to the growth of the state also,” Dr Kazi said
The legislator further informed that he is going to submit an official memorandum to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and request him to kindly look into the matter.
Talking strongly, the Rajabala MLA alleged that though Chief Minister Conrad Sangma visited few areas in flood prone Plain belts of Garo Hills but the type of assistance that people were expecting from the state Government were lacking. He alleged that not all could avail the benefits from the state Government
“The Chief Ministers also visited a few of the places but the type of assistance that people were expecting we didn’t get from the government. That is, I feel sorry to say about that and moreover it’s an open secret that the beneficiaries who were given some sort of an assistance were also somewhere motivated. Actually it was somewhere selectively chosen, so not all the people who were affected were given the benefit. So it is really you know it hurts me actually when a natural disaster comes it is for all not for a selected group of people belonging to any political, any caste or any creed,” Kazi added.
