Rakkam snubs at Ardent: Politics should have boundaries and should not incite or wish for violent upheavals

SHILLONG, AUG 13:  While arguing that politics should have boundaries and should not incite or wish for violent upheavals, NPP leader and cabinet minister Rakkam A Sangma on Tuesday expressed concerns over comments made by Opposition Voice of the People Party (VPP) president Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit, who suggested that Meghalaya needs a revolution similar to that in Bangladesh. Rakkam criticized this notion, emphasizing that such events are unfortunate and should not be encouraged.

Commenting on the statement made by Opposition Voice of the People Party (VPP) president and Nongkrem legislator Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit that Meghalaya also need revolution similar to that of Bangladesh, Rakkam said, “I think this kind of thoughts should not be encouraged. I pray such kind of happenings in Bangladesh should not happen in any place as it is very unfortunate.”

“Therefore, I think politics should have limit and boundaries. That kind of politics should not cross the boundary anywhere on the earth. I personally feel that yes we have our intention and plan but politics should not cross the boundaries. There should be limit to politics,” he said.

Rakkam stressed that political ideologies and policies should aim to inspire and provide hope, and ultimately, it is up to the democratic process to determine their effectiveness. He also called for prayers for Bangladesh, hoping for peace and stability in the region.

He added, “Our principles and ideologies should inspire our people and they should give hope to the people. And let democracy decide, if my policies and ideologies work, let people decide.”
