RDA worked hard to win Shillong seat: Kyrmen Shylla

SHILLONG, APR 30: UDP leader and cabinet minister Kyrmen Shylla on Tuesday said Regional Democratic Alliance (RDA) have worked so hard to win the Shillong parliamentary seat.

Speaking to reporters, Shylla said, “Winning or losing is not in our hands but we have tried so hard to win the elections.”

RDA has 14 MLAs of which 12 MLAs are from the United Democratic Party (UDP) and 2 from HSPDP.

“We have seen all MLAs are giving their hundred percent but in the end public whom they chose and why they chose the person or candidate that is very difficult to say. I would like to thank all MLAs of RDA for their contribution it shows the unity and it shows we all are one and in near future, we work like this unitedly no doubt time will come we can achieve our goal,” he said.

Shylla also said that the some of their supporters had gone to support different political parties and others have also come to support the RDA candidate during the elections.

“Here we cannot say who’s who we don’t have any proof but there will be since lakhs and lakhs of people are voting so no doubt supporters will join the otherside and other will join us,” he said.

The UDP leader said that the crowd attending the campaigns of different political parties is not enough to win elections.

“We need at least 2.5 or 3 lakh votes minimum to win the elections. We believe and we have seen all those political parties who held their political campaigns that (the crowd) is not even in lakh, so we cannot say just with that numbers they can claim they will win elections,” he said. He said, “We believe that though our people cannot come and join us in the rallies or in the public campaigns but they love us. We believe love and support they have for the party, will give us more strength to fight elections in the years to come.”

Asked, Shylla said, “Who contribute and what is their contribution that people know very well. If by sitting in the opposition, you claim you fulfil the aspirations of the people then I don’t know exactly why they elect us.”

Shylla also said that the people of his constituency will never want to see him sitting in the opposition because they know it is not easy to bring development and fulfilling the aspirations of the constituency.

“We always need to be in ruling party so that we can fulfill the aspirations of the people. By sitting in the opposition and claiming that the ruling party fails I don’t know what kind of contribution they can give by being in the opposition but I will not blame them may be that is the place they chose to be it is their choice but for me I personally feel that when you win election, public have full faith in you that you be in the ruling side and bring development in the constituency,” he said.

Meanwhile, the minister said no doubt different political parties have tried different strategies to woo the voters but people of the state cannot be fooled by fake promises and just by telling that other political parties are bad.
