Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh on Wednesday informed that the process of rehabilitation of over 200 hawkers and street vendors, who are currently running their businesses in Khyndailad area is likely to be completed within August 15th.

Talking exclusively to Meghalaya News 24, Lyngdoh said he will have a word with Deputy Chief Minister Incharge Urban Affairs Sniawbhalang Dhar before going ahead with the proposal.

“Its going to happen very soon but first we have to ensure that whatever relocation plan for them as we have spoken in the past they will be suitably rehabilitated and we should be able to see it through within the next couple of weeks,” Lyngdoh said.

Asked, the Minister said, “Within August 15 it should be possible but I will again seek final word from Deputy Chief Minister Incharge Urban Affairs.”

The Government decided to declare Khyndailad as a pedestrian zone, where there will be no vehicular traffic (inside the commercial hub).
