Shillong, June 20: Meghalaya, Tourism minister Paul Lyngdoh today informed that the relocation of hawkers from Khyndailad will be complete by July.
Talking to Mediapersons, the Tourism Minister said, “As told by the Deputy CM incharge Urban Affairs they have already zeroed in on certain areas, we expect the entire exercise to be complete not later than July.”
Asked, he said “Going by the timelines that have been mutually agreed upon by the Shillong Municipal Board, the Department of Urban Affairs and representatives of the vendors committee comprising of hawkers, so it is not an unilateral exercise.”
Lyngdoh said the initiative will see Khyndailad turn into a pedestrian only zone.
“Around 200 hawkers will be relocated and rehabilitated under the move,” the Minister said.
The Tourism Minister emphasized the aim of transforming Khyndailad into a pedestrian zone following the project’s completion.
