Chairman of the West Khasi Hills Regional Committee on inter-state boundary Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar on Wednesday expressed confidence that the people from both Meghalaya and Assam will accept the border settlement between the two states.
Speaking to reporters, Tongkhar said the people will no doubt accept the recommended amicable solution to end the dispute in the six of the twelve areas of difference because both the state governments have shown respect to the will of the people.
“By respecting and honoring the will of the people I think there is no better solution than this,” he added.
Tongkhar has also convened a meeting with the members of the regional committee soon after the cabinet approved the recommendations made by the three regional committees.
“As adviced by the chief minister, I have convened a meeting of the regional committee to brief them on the final decision before submitting the report to the Union home minister in Delhi tomorrow,” he said.
He also reminded that the role of the regional committees was to assist the two chief ministers to understand and arrived at the best decision on the matter.
