The Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) has decided to field Medalsing Lyngdoh as its candidate from Mawkyrwat constituency as its sitting legislator Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar is leaving the party ahead of the 2023 assembly polls.
“As of now, he (Tongkhar) is an HSPDP MLA but not a candidate of the party in the upcoming polls. Let’s say it is official (he will leave the party) since we have already declared our candidate from Mawkyrwat,” said Panbor Ryntathiang, general secretary of the party.
While reacting to the speculations doing the rounds that Tongkhar and Samlin Malngiang are leaving the party ahead of the 2023 polls,
He said that the party leaders had been trying to meet Malngiang but unfortunately he was not available.
“We have requested our vice president Martle Mukhim to meet him personally to know whether he will contest from our party or he will leave the party,” he said.
He said that the decision of its MLA to join the UDP will not affect the relationship within the RDA. He said the HSPDP will decide on whether not to be part of the RDA after elections next year.
Tongkhar represents the Mawkyrwat constituency and Malngiang is a Sohiong legislator. Both are the two only HSPDP MLAs in the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly.
The Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) on Wednesday said it will not take action against its MLAs who are all set to join other political parties for contesting the 2023 assembly elections.
Speaking to reporters, HSPDP secretary Panborlang Ryntathiang said that the party is very broad minded and it doesn’t want to take any action against anybody since elections are also nearing.
