General Secretary of the BJP Shillong city district, Rocky Hek on Friday decided to quit the party.
His resignation letter was submitted to BJP state president Ernest Mawrie. Rocky is the nephew of BJP leader and sitting legislator from Pynthorumkhrah Alexander L Hek.
Sources said that Rocky wanted to contest from North Shillong constituency on a BJP ticket in 2023. However, the party is not keen to give him a ticket and this has made him decide to resign from the BJP.
Rocky had unsuccessfully contested the 2019 MDC elections from North Shillong.
Speaking to reporters after submitting the resignation letter, Hek slammed BJP leaders for not being reliable, even as he admitted of meeting some of the NPP leaders as he hopes to secure the NPP ticket.
“I have tendered my resignation because the leaders of our state are not reliable. I have been working tirelessly for the party since 2018-19. When I work like a pig but I do not get recognition, it really hurts,” he said.
