Shillong, Feb 4: Superintendent of Police (SP) East Khasi Hills District, Vivek Syiem, has informed that an additional five companies of state police have been requested for deployment ahead of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) elections, scheduled for February 21.
“Law and Order situation is very much under control, it is peaceful right now and we have no reports of any clash and conflict. We are getting additional force for the District Council Polls, additional 5 companies will be deployed,” Superintendent of Police (SP) East Khasi Hills District, Vivek Syiem said.
Syiem stated that platoons have already been deployed, with additional forces being stationed at 34 vulnerable and five critical polling stations.
“The district has a total of 931 polling stations. In addition to this, mobile patrols and tactical patrolling are being conducted, along with the establishment of night checkpoints (nakas) and routine security checks to ensure a smooth and secure electoral process,” he added.
Meanwhile, East Khasi Hills Police have recently arrested two individuals in connection with an alleged bomb threat message. The suspects had reportedly threatened to carry out multiple bomb blasts in Shillong. The SP confirmed that the case will be chargesheeted soon.
