Sherwood School, Tura tops SSLC; St Anthony HS school and St Edmunds HS school in HSSLC (Arts)

SHILLONG, MAY 24: Sherwood School, Tura in West Garo Hills topped in the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) examination while for the first time St Anthony’s Higher Secondary School and St Edmund’s Higher Secondary School shared the top position in the Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate (Arts).

 

The results for both the examinations were announced by the Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBOSE) here on Friday.

 

Anuj Chetry of Sherwood School, Tura became the topper of this year’s SSLC examination by scoring 575 marks.

 

The second position went to Aleytheia Syiemlieh of St Margaret’s Higher Secondary School, Shillong (574 marks) while Congenial Kharsahnoh of Christian Academy, Shillong secured the third position (571 marks).

 

Thirty-four other students from different schools across the state also featured in this year’s SSLC top-twenty merit list.

 

Menangmankhraw Kharkongor of St Anthony’s Higher Secondary School and Gaurav Bharali of St Edmund’s Higher Secondary School shared the top position in the HSSLC examination when they both scored 468 marks while Tanisha Das and Salseng Marak, both of Don Bosco College (Hr Sec Section), Tura were placed in the second and third position by scoring 451 and 450 marks respectively.

 

Meanwhile, the state recorded a pass percentage of 55.80 per cent in the SSLC examination when compared to last year at 51.93 per cent.

 

On the other hand, the overall pass percentage in the HSSLC examination was registered at 79.76 per cent. Last year, the pass percentage was 80.30 per cent.

 

A total of 30,207 of 54,134 students from 679 schools cleared the SSLC examination held in 157 centres, while 21,833 of 27,374  students from 251 schools who gave the HSSLC exams held in 105 centres were declared successful by the Board.

 

West Jaintia District scored the highest pass percentage at 78.34 percent while North Garo Hills registered the lowest at 23.88 percent in the SSLC examination.

 

In the HSSLC examination, Eastern West Khasi Hills District recorded the highest pass percentage at 92.32 percent while South Garo Hills is the lowest with only 56.30 per cent.
