Shillong All Faiths Forum (SAFF) celebrated its 3rd foundation day on Thursday.
Governor Phagu Chauhan was the Chief Guest on the occasion.
Held at Bianchi Memorial Hall, Lachumiere, Shillong, the event witnessed the convergence of all faith leaders, community members, and distinguished guests to underscore the importance of unity, understanding, and environmental responsibility.
Speaking on the occasion, the Governor lauded the event’s theme, “Peace, Harmony, and Environment,” and highlighted the intrinsic connection between divinity and humanity with peace and harmony at its core.
Citing India’s theme for its G20 Presidency, “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” (One Earth – One Family – One Future), the Hon’ble Governor commended the formation of organizations such as the SAFF and its objective to fearlessly champion values of peace, justice, and respect for human life.
Pointing out the need for environmental consciousness, the Governor likened Earth as a mother and emphasized the significance of treating her with affection and regard. In this regard, the Governor urged faith leaders to lead the way in advocating for peace, harmony, and a collective reverence for the environment.
Subsequently, the Governor expressed hope that the SAFF will continue to champion peace and harmony along with responsible environmental practices and set an excellent example for the rest of the country.
Meghalaya’s legacy of religious harmony strengthened further with the formation of SAFF during COVID 19 pandemic with formation of Shillong All Faiths Forum (SAFF).
Bishop P. Lyngdoh, President SAFF while talking to reporters calls for peace, harmony, brotherhood and togetherness in the society. He said the best about SAFF is that they were able to come together as people from different faiths.
The programme was enliven by songs and dances performed by different religious groups.
