It’s that time of the year again, when you feel the aroma of the pine cones everywhere you go, the brush of the cold air against your face but your hearts warm. Its time for Christmas here in Meghalaya.
Festivity on the air as only few days left for Christmas. Christmas decorations are ready for sale and people are gearing up for festivity. Well lit Christmas Stars that can be seen hung in the shops and celebrations set to begin as people flood the commercial areas of Khyndailad or Police Bazar and Iewduh shopping for the festival.
Christmas decorations of all kinds have been flying off the shelves of stores across Shillong markets.
Minister in-charge of tourism Paul Lyngdoh informed that the department is sponsoring the Christmas lights and decoration in Shillong and in Tura.
Lyngdoh said that in the previous years, they are private parties who are being involved but this year it is the state government who has come forward in a big way to showcase Shillong’s welcome of Christmas.
“Form tonight you will see these various venues and points in the city as well as Tura being decked-up in preparation for the festivities season”.

“We also are expecting that this will also add to our attraction as a tourist hub and more particularly several families are visiting the capital city and I am sure they will all be delighted by the splendor and the brightest that amaze them” he added.
When asked on the fund spent by the department to decorate Shillong and Tura, the minister in-charge said “I don’t have the exact figures I think the directorate is working on with private groups but it should be well within our budgetary limits”.
Christmas decoration items are magnificently displayed in shops. Customers are purchasing varieties of goods to be fit and organize themselves on forth coming grand eve.
