Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Friday said the ‘Shillong ropeway project’ is at a very advanced stage with the State Government already mobilizing funds for the project implementation.
Stating that the design for the ropeway is ready, Sangma informed that the project will be ready at the earliest.
“We will start off with the Shillong ropeway and as I have mention it is in very advance state, we have already mobilized the fund for it and we have already done the design and we have already coordinated with the land owners and you will be that very soon when the ropeway project starts and we will try to complete it at the earliest,” the Chief Minister told reporters in Shillong.
Calling it a big game changer for the tourism sector, he said, “…..the way it is being worked out is not just the ropeway but the entire experience when you reach the Shillong peak will be different.”
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma further informed that the entire Shillong peak area will be redone with large shops or different eating joints coming up in the area.
“You will see a lot of activities going around there and it’s going to be a verypositive development,” Sangma said.
The CM said that the ropeway will offer tourists an entirely new experience, which will make Shillong a desired tourist destination in the North East.
“We would like to see that wherever the footfalls are there, wherever we can ensure that enough tourists would use the rope way we would definitely explore the option for that also,” he added while mentioning about the plan to come up with some more ropeways in the state once the Shillong ropeway project is completed.
