For the first time in the history of Meghalaya, a Sohphlang festival will be organized on 21 October.
This festival will be organized by the Seng Samla Balang Catholic Mawkynrew at Holy Cross School Mawkynrew with the aim to promote local indigenous food of the Khasi-Jaintia Hills.
Speaking to media persons, president of the Seng Samla Balang Catholic Mawkynrew, Pynbianglang Kshiar said that the Sohphlang festival aims to promote the indigenous food of Meghalaya especially of Mawkynrew region where Sohphlang is abundant.
Ksiar said the Sohphlang festival is being funded by the tourism department and is being organised in association with the agriculture department and Meghalayan Age.
He added that apart from showcasing the Sohphlang, the festival will also provide a platform to the farmers of Mawkynrew to display their agricultural produce.
