SP Clarifies: VPP Chief’s Vehicle Not Stopped During Black Film Checks at Mawlai

SHILLONG, SEP 6: East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Sylvester Nongtnger clarified on Friday that police did not stop or check the vehicle of opposition Voice of the People Party (VPP) legislator from Nongkrem, Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit, during a recent inspection targeting vehicles with black films in the Mawlai area.

Addressing the media, Nongtnger explained, “On August 22, there was a random checking by Mawlai police against vehicles using black films. During that time, around 11:30 AM, a private vehicle (Fortuner) approached the checkpoint and was stopped since it was a routine check. As the vehicle in front was stopped, naturally, the vehicle behind was also halted. Our officers, upon realizing that the vehicle belonged to an MLA, released it without further inspection.”

The SP highlighted that under existing directives, all ministers and MLAs are entitled to use one vehicle with black films.

“Some of the ministers and MLAs have already submitted the number plates of such vehicles to us, and we are acting accordingly,” Nongtnger added
