SHILLONG, OCT 21: The special cover, stamp and envelope of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) was released on Monday at a two-day ‘Philatelic Exhibition Meghapex 2024’ organized by the Department of Posts in collaboration with the Meghalaya Postal Division at the State Convention Centre.
The exhibition was attended by Meghalaya DGP Idashisha Nongrang, Chief Postmaster Northeast Circle Sanjiv Ranjan, KHADC chiefs Pyniaid Sing Syiem, executive members and students.
Speaking to reporters, the CEM of KHADC, Pyniaid Sing Syiem, said that the objective of the ‘Philatelic Exhibition Meghapex 2024’ is to showcase the various stamps that have been used since ancient times.
Syiem said the ‘Philatelic Exhibition Meghapex 2024’ is important because through this exhibition, KHADC has been included in the Postal Service of India as a Special Cover with 2000 copies printed.
“At the Philatelic Exhibition Meghapex 2024, we have released a Special Cover of KHADC which sent to the National Museum in Delhi by the Postal Master of North East Circle which will be sent to back to the District Council to sell these stamps and the Council will also be able to use these stamps,” said Syiem.
Syiem said that the inclusion of KHADC in the Postal Service through the Special Cover is a blessing as it will be recognition by government of India as Special Cover explains about KHADC in Hindi, English and Khasi language.
