Spike in COVID 19 cases, Education Inst. to remain close in Tura


West Garo Hills District administration on Tuesday ordered the closure of all educational institutions in Tura town in view of the rapid resurgence of Covid-19 in the district.

Following the recent spike in COVID 19 positive cases from returnees, the West Garo Hills District administration has taken a strict measure to deal with the surge.

West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Ram Singh in the order said, “All schools and other educational institutions of Tura Town including St. John Secondary School, Chibragre and Auxillium Secondary School, Alotgre shall remain closed with effect from 28th April, 2021 to 8th May, 2021.”

“However, ongoing MBOSE examinations will continue as scheduled by strictly following COVID protocols. All the institutions shall maintain the classes through online teaching,” the DC added.

The order also directed all shops and educational institutions to close everyday at 7 PM while there will be complete closure on Sunday. However, Pharmacies have been allowed to open as well as home delivery services which will continue.

“With effect from 28th April, 2021 all shops and commercial establishment shall close everyday at 7:00 P.M. in Tura Town but Sunday will be whole day closed. However, home delivery services shall continue including Medicine shops,” the order states.

The imposition of night curfew in the entire district from 10 PM to 5 AM continues to be in place. The Deputy Commissioner also issued a warning against violators of Covid-19 protocols like failure to wear masks, smoking and spitting in public places that penalties would be imposed on them by designated officers empowered under Section 2 of the Epidemic Disease Act, 1897.
