SHILLONG, JAN 31: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Wednesday said the decision to have an early budget session of the State Assembly is due to the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Speaking to reporters, Sangma said the state will not be able to pass the full budget if elections are announced.
“If elections are announced, we will have to go for Vote on Account, which would mean that it would disturb the overall expenditure of the state for the next financial year and hence to avoid that, we are calling for an early budget session so that we we pass the budget and we don’t have to go for Vote on Account and the financial planning for the next financial year is not disturbed,” he said.
The budget session of the State Assembly will commence from February 16.
Governor Phagu Chauhan summoned the assembly to meet at 10 am on February 16 in the temporary assembly chamber at Rilbong, Shillong.
