Chief Minister Conrad Sangma led the cabinet delegation will meet Union Home Minister Amit shah during his Visit to the state.
Shah will be visiting Shillong on Saturday to attend the 69th plenary meeting of the North Eastern Council.
Talking to reporters on Thursday, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma informed that a delegation of the state cabinet will be meeting the union home minister, Amit Shah during his visit to the state on January 23.
“The Cabinet will be meeting him (Shah) and we are hopeful we will be getting the time,” Sangma told reporters on Thursday.
According to him, almost all the members of the MDA government are in the cabinet.
Asked, the chief minister said that the inner line permit (ILP) is something that the past government did not even pass a resolution.
“We as MDA have taken that step and passed a resolution, so it clearly reflects the commitment this government has,” he asserted.
“A number of meetings have been held with the union home minister and we have worked towards moving and achieving this goal,” the CM added.
However stating that it is a process that will take time, Sangma said many of the states have done this and it took quite some time for them to be able to achieve ILP.
On the other hand, the chief minister informed that the different social organizations have asked for an appointment with the union home minister. “We have passed on the message since the letters have come through the chief secretary to us. Therefore, we as a government have sent those requests to the home ministry but it will be up to the home minister whether he will meet or not,” he said.
The CM further said that his past experience has shown that the union home minister is very open to meeting people. “So it is a decision that will be taken at his level but we hope time will be given to all individuals and people who would like to meet him,” he added.
