State Govt will take stringent action to ensure illegal coal trade is stopped

Deputy Chief Minister incharge of Home (Police) Prestone Tynsong, on Wednesday said the state Government will take stringent action to ensure illegal coal trade is stopped.

Talking to reporters, the Deputy Chief Minister said, “Whoever is carrying illegal coal, they will be seized and then they will be charge sheeted.”

It may be mentioned that a truck carrying illegally-mined coal fell into a gorge near Umling on Tuesday morning. While this has substantiated the claim that the rampant illegal mining and transportation of coal in the state.

Reportedly, the truck (ML07 B 9154) was using a route from West Khasi Hills via Umrit to Umling to evade police checking and was apparently overspeeding when it fell into the gorge.
