Shillong, March 15, 2024: The strawberry fields of Meghalaya beckon one and all as the state is all set to host the “Strawberry Festival” from April 5 to April 13 across the state which is in line with the state’s efforts to promote Agro- tourism.
The festival is being held through a collaborative initiative by the Department of Tourism and Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare.
It may be mentioned that the Directorate of Horticulture has undertaken large scale plantation of strawberry under various central and state programs.
The harvest season for strawberry has begun and the vibrant strawberry fields in the villages of Syntung and Nohron in East Khasi Hills, Umktieh and Sohliya in Ri Bhoi, Baladinggre, Darechikgre, Durakantragre in West Garo Hills will organise the Strawberry Festival.
The other attractions of the festival are strawberry picking at the farms, wine tasting, jam making, glamping in the strawberry fields, live music, cultural performances. Strawberry saplings will also be up on sale.
With an intention to push for local business hubs in the rural areas, the festival will enhance the visibility of the State’s agro tourism potential.
