Art and Culture Minister Paul Lyngdoh on Wednesday said, a statue of U Tirot Sing, a Khasi legendary freedom fighter, is likely to be unveiled at Dhaka in December.

Talking to Meghalaya News 24, Lyngdoh said, the state Government is coordinating with the Indian High Commission in Dhaka in this regard.

“We are coordinating with the Indian High Commission and hopefully within December this year we will be in a position to unveil the bust and also to inaugurate the space that is dedicated to U Tirot Singh,” Lyngdoh said.

Earlier the High Commission of India in Bangladesh has agreed to a proposal of the Meghalaya government for establishment of a memorial dedicated to legendary freedom fighter U Tirot Sing Syiem at the Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre in Dhaka.

“It will be the best such honour because it will be for the first time that U Tirot Singh will cross the territorial limits of India and become a global figure,” he added.
