Strength of NPP increases to 28 in 59 members Meghalaya Legislative Assembly

After the People’s Democratic Front (PDF) merger with NPP, the strength of Conrad Sangma led party has gone up to 28 in the 59 members Meghalaya Legislative Assembly.

Elated with this increase in number, the NPP National president said once the formalities of this joining is completed the number will go up.

“We have multiple roles that we need to work in, we are working towards ensuring that their (new joiners) capacity is used in the Governance process and as well as in the party process, definitely, all options will be explored,” Sangma said.

The NPP National President also hinted there may be some changes in the political equation post Sohiong poll. The election for the Sohiong seat will be held on May 10 and the counting is on May 13.

Asked,  he, however, refused to come clear if UDP will be a major loser in this PDF- NPP merger as he said the state Government is examining all the options.

“We are exploring all options (about UDP), it is not the correct time for me to say all these, we will see as we go but right now we are happy that they joined,” he added.

Asked if post Sohiong polls, will UDP lose any cabinet berth as per peculation, the NPP National President said, “We will see as the time comes as I said it’s not proper for me to say anything right now, so are examining all the options but as I said right now it is too early to say anything.”
