North Tura MLA Thomas A Sangma on Thursday was unanimously elected the Speaker of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly.
Since there was no candidate from the opposition side, the election to the Speaker post was unopposed.
Pro tem Speaker Timothy Shira declared Thomas as the Speaker.
The former Rajya Sabha member has represented the prestigious North Tura Legislative Assembly for the two consecutive term.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and Opposition MLA Charles Pyngrope felicitates the newly appointed Speaker.
Later the Legislators irrespective of party line Congratulated Sangma.
