In light of Independence Day, the Shillong City has bolstered its security with the deployment of at least three companies of the state police force alongside the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). According to Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills District, Sylvester Nongtnger, an additional two companies of police are received, making the total three companies to be deployed in Shillong.
“Like every other year we have full preparation for the independence day celebration, infact we have conducted raid, Naka in the whole city and we have deployed forces everywhere. Especially tonight all our officers will be very active, we are fully prepare for the celebration tomorrow,” Nongtnger told Meghalaya News 24.
“We have got additional police forces, we have sufficient forces now to deploy all over the Shillong city. We have got more than 2 companies of police forces, excluding CRPF. Total atleast three companies of police forces de[played in the Shillong city,” the SP added.
The SP added that while no untoward incidents are anticipated, the district police remain on high alert.
