Three drug peddlers arrested.

Drug use is a major problem in the State of Meghalaya, however, the active Meghalaya police never miss a chance to nab the drug peddlers.

Three drug peddlers were arrested from two districts – East Khasi Hills and East Jaintia Hills along with heroin on Saturday.

One Love Kush Bora was arrested at Goralane, Laitumkhrah and from his possession, 186 grams of heroin was recovered during a joint operation by the anti-narcotic team and Assam Rifles, East Khasi Hills Superintendent of police, Sylvester Nongtnger said.

He said a case is being registered against the accused person.

In another incident, two persons from Karimganj and Badarpur, Assam were arrested from a red Celerio (AS 10 A 8308) at Malidor, East Jaintia Hills district for their involvement in drug trafficking.

From their possession, 14 soapboxes of heroin and approximately 10,000 number of Yaba tablets commonly known as “ world is yours” tablets were recovered. The contraband items were concealed under the bonnet of the car.

According to district police, the trap was laid based on credible leads for the past three weeks that some persons from Assam are using Malidor as a hub to supply contraband for onward movement into the state.

In this regard, a case under NDPS Act is being registered against the two accused persons, they said.
