TMC Files Complaint Against NPP for Alleged Violation of Model Code of Conduct in Gambegre

SHILLONG, OCT 16: The opposition All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Wednesday lodged a formal complaint against the ruling National People’s Party (NPP), accusing it of violating the model code of conduct (MCC) by distributing roofing sheets to voters in Gambegre constituency.

In a letter addressed to the Returning Officer, District Co-ordinator of AITC West Garo Hills, SN Sangma, raised concerns over NPP’s alleged attempts to influence voters through the distribution of CGI sheets (roofing materials) across the constituency. According to Sangma, this act constitutes a clear breach of the MCC and is an unethical misuse of government resources.

“This misuse of government resources is not only unethical but also constitutes bribery,” he said.

“Despite the Election Commission of India (ECI) having announced the date of polling, the NPP continues with these activities. Today they were distributing materials in Aminda Simsang village (polling station no 2), even though the MCC is already in effect. This blatant disregard for the rules undermines the spirit of conducting a free and fair election,” Sangma added.

The TMC leader alleged that the NPP has stocked large quantities of CGI sheets near almost every polling station, and their distribution to voters continues unabated.

“In this regard, I would like to request your immediate intervention to stop this activity and ensure that the election is conducted in a fair and impartial manner,” he stated.

Sangma urged the Returning Officer to take swift action to halt the distribution and ensure that the election is conducted in a fair and impartial manner.
