TMC Criticizes NPP’s Alleged Desperation in Gambegre
The opposition All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) has recommended the name of GHADC MDC Sadhiarani M Sangma as its candidate for the upcoming bye-election to the Gambegre Assembly seat.
Informing this, TMC Parliamentary Party (Meghalaya) leader Dr Mukul Sangma revealed on Friday that the Pradesh Trinamool Congress Committee, led by Charles Pyngrope, has recommended Sadhiarani M Sangma’s candidature. “The committee was unanimous in its decision to recommend her name for final approval as the TMC candidate for the forthcoming Gambegre bye-election,” Sangma said. He added that the final announcement will be made pending approval from the chairperson.
The by-election in Gambegre has been necessitated following the resignation of Saleng A. Sangma, a three-time legislator who has been elected as the new MP for Tura.
The National People’s Party (NPP) is fielding Mehtab Chandee A. Sangma, the wife of Meghalaya’s Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, as their candidate.
Meanwhile, the Meghalaya Congress is close to finalizing Jingjang M. Marak as its candidate for the by-election.
Meanwhile, Sangma also alleged that CGI sheets are being distributed to families in the Gambegre constituency under questionable circumstances.
“I have been following up on developments in the constituency. The state machinery, including the chief minister himself, has been directed towards that constituency,” he noted.
He further questioned whether the CGI sheets were distributed as part of a government scheme or by the party.
“Whether these CGI sheets are being distributed for beneficiaries under any government scheme or are being purchased or distributed by the party, that we will have to find out,” Sangma said.
Sangma criticized the NPP’s actions as desperate measures to win the Gambegre seat. “But I am telling you, people will give them a befitting reply,” he asserted.
He also stated that TMC is actively monitoring and addressing illegalities, despite not providing frequent briefings.
Asked, he said, “We will take the bull by its horn and nobody will be allowed to go scot-free. It doesn’t mean that just because we are not giving frequent briefings on these illegalities that are happening it doesn’t mean that we are not working.”
“I am keeping every illegality that they (NPP) have with impunity I must say it has become more synonymous with the party concerned that anything everywhere where schemes are being implemented there is complete manipulation, nepotism. Therefore, I have been sharing my concerns within the house that the officers concerned who are responsible for implementation of the schemes must be very careful because the law has its long hand.
There is concerted effort by the government of the day to cripple the whole process of law. You have to ask the CM about the current dispensation of the Lokayukta. Has the Lokayukta been made fully functional as per mandate of the law? All these are crucial. If not, what is the reason?” he asked.
