Transport Department presents draft Meghalaya Electric Vehicle policy, 2020 


Meghalaya Government is planning to introduce electric vehicles in the state particularly for short-distance travel.
In this regard, the State Transport Department on Tuesday presented the draft Meghalaya Electric Vehicle policy, 2020 to the State Government. The policy envisages promoting innovation through start-ups and will create a pool of skilled manpower.
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K.Sangma took to social media to announce #TheMeghalaya Electric Vehicle Policy 2020 is at its final stage and will be cleared by the Cabinet soon. A meeting was held today with senior officials to discuss the salient features of the policy.
This policy aims at promoting a clean and green environment and create a conducive electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem in the state.
The salient features mentioned in the policy are encouraging the adoption of at least 15% Electric Vehicles (EVs) by 2025, mandating the adoption of EVs inGovt.,  replacing Meghalaya TransportCorporation buses with EVs, providing a clean and green environment at tourist spots, and supporting the recycling of batteries.
The policy also envisages at providing financial subsidies and incentives to start-Ups for setting up EV and EVCS service centers, retrofitting centers, recycling used batteries, setting up EV fleet for shared mobility. EOM
