The United Democratic Party (UDP) will hold its general council meeting on July 29 to elect new central executive committee (CEC) of the party.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting of the CEC, UDP general secretary Jemino Mawthoh said the party is going to elect the new CEC in the upcoming general council meeting to be held on July 29.
He said tenure of the current body had actually expired since 2022 but because of the pandemic and assembly elections, the general council meeting had to be postponed.
Mawthoh informed that a nomination committee was also constituted for proposing the names of the new office bearers of the party for approval by the general council of the party.
He said that nomination committee will comprise of all the district presidents and secretaries, presidents and secretaries of the frontal wings – the youth wing, womens’ wing and the farmers’ wing.
It will also include active members of the party – Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar, PT Sawkmie, Mayralborn Syiem, Nujorki Sungoh and two members from Garo Hills.
He said the president and general secretary of the party will be ex-officio members of this nomination committee.
Meanwhile, UDP chief Metbah Lyngdoh said he would leave it to the party to decide on whether he should continue as president of the party.
“I leave it to the party to decide on that (whether I should continue to lead the UDP as its president). I will not say anything on that because if I say it is as good as asking favours from my friends. So it will not be appropriate to say a word,” Lyngdoh said.
He said that the party has been able to perform well because of the support of each and every member from across the state.
