SHILLONG, FEB 12: UDP leader Lahkmen Rymbui Monday expressed confidence that Regional Democratic Alliance (RDA) candidate Robertjune Kharjahrin will win from the Shillong parliamentary seat in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Speaking to reporters, Rymbui said, “The RDA will win this election looking at the strength of the other political parties.”
He said the RDA feels that Kharjahrin may be the best person to represent the state in the parliament. “He (Kharjahrin) is a tried and tested as for last 10-15 years he had always raised his voice on the streets, raised his voice with the government on the issues concerning the interest of the general population. Therefore, it is time for us to elect these types of leaders, who have the spirit to serve the people. It is time the public should give (him) a chance. But it is upto the people, who will elect and who will chose and we from the party, we will work together to ensure the candidate of RDA, who will be contesting under the UDP symbol, will win (the Shillong seat),” Rymbui added.
Asked, the UDP leader said, “I will not say the VPP will play a spoilsport, no, as I said every party set up their candidate with a view that their candidate should win so we will see in the coming month how this thing unfold. The past results tell that story but I hope in this election, it will be different. I wish that the RDA candidate will win and it is always the wish of the people that regional parties should come together but nobody could control everybody’s mind. We live in a democracy where everybody have the right to contest, everybody have the right to set up the candidate but it ultimately the wish of the people will prevail.”
