The United Democratic Party (UDP) remained tight-lipped on whether to continue to be part of the NPP-led MDA alliance post-2023 or not.
UDP president and Assembly Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh refused to give any direct answer when asked if it will continue to be part of MDA post-2023.
“Any political party, even UDP also, we are eyeing for more than 30 numbers, if we can get a single majority there is nothing like it,” Lyngdoh told reporters.
Asked he said, “As of now we are fighting on our own and UDP is not allying with any other political party till now.”
He said that the UDP is fighting the 2023 polls on its own even as he expressed confidence that the party will win more than 30 seats.
Whether the party is ready to work with the opposition All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) post-elections, Lyngdoh said, “The choice will come only when the time comes.”
Meanwhile, the UDP chief said that if people are not happy with the NPP-led MDA government, they should consider giving more MLAs to the UDP.
“Give us more MLAs, and we will deliver much better,” he said.
While stating that UDP has always been vocal about the issues, Lyngdoh said, “Whenever is any issue comes out against the Government, any department, UDP comes out very clearly and speaks about it and we never hide anything which is necessary for us to speak on behalf of the people. “
