Union Minister Giriraj Singh Advocates Blockchain and VisioNxt for Fashion’s Future at NIFT Shillong Inauguration

Union Textile Minister Giriraj Singh has asked the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) Shillong to explore blockchain technology for enhanced traceability, transparency, and product authenticity in the fashion and textile supply chain.

Addressing students at NIFT’s new campus inauguration, Singh highlighted the transformative role of blockchain, emphasizing its potential to boost integrity across the industry. “If our students create beautiful designs through hard work, we must equip them with tools and technology to protect their creativity,” Singh stated, underscoring the significance of innovation for India’s growing design sector.

Singh also spoke about VisioNxt, an initiative supported by the Ministry of Textiles, which leverages big data, AI, and emotional intelligence to analyze consumer behaviors and forecast trends. “We need not depend on other nations,” he asserted, describing VisioNxt as a pioneering tool that will empower the Indian fashion sector with crucial market insights. Singh also announced plans to establish NIFT campuses internationally and called on students to elevate the “Bharat brand” globally, especially through sustainable green textiles. “Whichever company or brand you work with, take the Bharat brand with you wherever you go,” he urged.

The ceremony, marking the 12th convocation and the opening of NIFT Shillong’s permanent campus, honored 123 graduates, including 97 undergraduates and 26 postgraduates.

Meghalaya’s Textile Minister Paul Lyngdoh expressed the state’s commitment to supporting NIFT Shillong in future initiatives. The event drew distinguished attendees, including Minister of State for External Affairs and Textiles Pabitra Margherita, students, faculty, and families.
