Stating that more than industrial activities, it is the urban parse which causes severe pollution, an official of Meghalaya State Pollution control board express concern about the waste management which disturbs the ecosystem.
National Pollution Control Day is observed throughout the country on December 2 to instill awareness among people about environmental pollution and its disastrous consequences. To know on this day we met W. R KHARKRANG senior environmental engineer Meghalaya pollution control board, said, “Most of the time we have the misconception that industrial activities contribute to all the environmental problem, but then through statistic and the studies that have been done, it has been found that the environmental damage or environmental pollution caused by industries is not up to that extend, however, the urban parse pollution created by General public is a major concern.”
“When we spoke about this day, it’s about people’s contribution towards the environment,” he said about National pollution control day which is celebrated to spread awareness.
Referring to the mode of Urban waste disposal several times, the official called for taking more steps to stop the direct discharge of sewage, especially into the water bodies. Asking people to change their habits, he said and it all starts from each and every individual, the waste that is generated at home is disposed off in a responsible manner.
KHARKRANG said,” It may sound convenient but it pollutes water bodies and led to the health hazard. I will urge upon every individual to be very diligent, keep the environment in your heart, and let it be part of your lifestyle. “
