Union Minister of State for Education, Dr. Sukanta Majumdar, on Wednesday, addressed the ongoing demand for the removal of North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) Vice Chancellor Prof. P.S. Shukla, stating that such decisions cannot be made solely based on public demand.
“The university is an autonomous thing and there is a procedure of recruitment of Vice Chancellor, so you cannot change a VC on demand. It is not possible, but the Government of India is always in touch with the officials (and the administration of the university),” Dr. Majumdar said.
Reassuring that the ministry is actively engaged in resolving the concerns, he added, “We are keeping a watch on this, and we would like to minimize this. I hope we will be able to minimize the problems, and whatever they are facing, as students are the pivotal parts of any Education system.”
