Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) chief Vincent H Pala has ruled out the possibility of former Chief Minister and Congress Legislature Party leader Dr. Mukul Sangma quitting Congress.
“I don’t think so because he is a CLP leader and he has seen the problem of switching parties, emotionally you may start thinking something but ultimately he is a very senior leader in the party,” Pala, also Shillong MP said.
Downplaying the speculation about Dr. Sangma meeting with TMC leader in Kolkata, he said, “He has got followers and I don’t think he will leave. Dr. Mukul might have met. I also meet a lot of people here and there. That doesn’t mean you leave the party.”
With division within the Congress becoming so visible, the new MPCC chief is finding it difficult to keep his flocks intact.
Pala however, said he would be the first one to convince Sangma not to leave the Congress. “Therefore, once he comes back I will meet him,” he added.
When asked, the MPCC chief said, “No, I took charge only on Saturday then Sunday. You know we always get holidays, Monday I wanted to meet him but he was not there, he already left Shillong.”
Sources said that the AICC has made several attempts to reach out to the CLP leader but failed.
