VPP Dominates KHADC, NPP Holds Strong in JHADC as Congress Faces Major Setback

In a dramatic political shift, the Voice of the People Party (VPP) has swept the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) elections, securing 17 seats and eliminating Congress, BJP, and KHNAM from the race. The results mark a stunning electoral breakthrough for VPP, reshaping the political landscape of the district councils.

Meanwhile, in the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC), the National People’s Party (NPP) emerged as the leading force, winning 13 seats and maintaining its stronghold in the region.

In KHADC, the United Democratic Party (UDP) secured 5 seats, while NPP was restricted to 4 seats. The elections delivered a major upset, with KHADC Chief Executive Member (CEM) Pyniaid Sing Syiem of NPP losing his seat. The Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) bagged one seat, while two Independents also won.

Former Deputy CEM PN Syiem of Congress failed to withstand the VPP wave, further deepening the party’s woes.

In JHADC, apart from NPP’s 13-seat victory, VPP put up a strong fight, winning 8 seats. UDP and Congress managed only 3 seats each, while two Independents also secured victories. BJP and HSPDP failed to open their accounts.

The results signify a major power shift, with VPP emerging as a dominant force in Khasi Hills and NPP maintaining its grip over Jaintia Hills.
