The Voice of the People Party (VPP) will organize a series of public rallies on the implementation of the roster system from April 17.
In the first phase, three meetings will be organized at Madan Heh, Mawlai at 2pm on April 17, Iawmusiang, Jowai at 12pm on April 19 and Jaiaw at 2 pm on April 20, VPP spokesperson Dr Batskhem Myrboh said in a statement.
He said that the public rally is to provide proper and correct perspective and consciousness on the unjust implementation of the roster system based on the unfair premise of the present state job reservation policy.
Myrboh said the Party is forced to take the route of organizing public rallies in view of the apathetic attitude of the MDA 2.0 government to the request of the party for convening the special session of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly to discuss the matter.
He said the attitude of the government is a blatant disregard to the bleak future faced by the youth belonging to the Khasi-Jaintia community and those belonging to the differently abled category while it disproportionately advances the interest of the youth of others,” he said.
Further, the adamant position taken by the government shows its disrespect to the constitutionally and democratically constituted Meghalaya Legislative Assembly. The Assembly is supposed to be an institution where public issues are discussed by the representatives duly elected by the people, he added.
The VPP leader said each day of delay in the just and fair implementation of the roster system and revision of the job reservation policy leads to further mounting injustice in the state even as he appealed to the public to attend the meetings organized by the party.
