VPP’s Adelbert Nongrum asks voters of North Shillong to re-elect him

Former MLA of North Shillong constituency and candidate of the Voice of the People Party (VPP) Adelbert Nongrum said asserted that he had tried his level best to implement all schemes and projects in the constituency even when the state was fighting the pandemic covid-19.

Speaking during the common platform for all candidates of North Shillong constituency which was organized by the Wahingdoh Dorbar Shnong, Nongrum he had always put the interest of the people and the state as whole even way back before he joined politics especially when he was member of the Khasi Student Union (KSU).

Nongrum claimed that even though he is part of the ruling, he had always opposed the decision of the state government to come out with casinos and he had initiated the demand to review the state reservation policy and also for the age relaxation for applying for government jobs.

“The government and other political parties had always expressed that the state reservation policy is a sensitive subject but I dared to say Mr. Conrad Sangma don’t hide behind these words as it is high time to sensitize the people on the need to review the reservation policy” said Nongrum.

Nongrum asserted that he will continue to raise these sensitive issues or subjects like the reservation policy, the border disputes, the relocation of residents from Them Iew Mawlong besides others as these issues need to be discussed in order to come out with an amicable solution.

He added that when it comes to health, education, and employment opportunities, the constituency and the state as a whole need to work out plans and policy in order to ensure that the people of the state are benefited the most.

“In 1995 I had planned to join HNLC to serve the people of the state from the jungles but as the saying goes man propose and God dispose hence I continued to serve the people as a member of KSU before I joined the politics in the following years” he added.

Nongrum alleged that the state government led by the National People’s Party (NPP) had failed in spheres due to its rampant corruption in all departments which is why the VPP aimed to form a clean and transparent government which will bring benefits.

He added that during the pandemic, the central government had promised to provide ex-gratia of Rs. 5 lakh but when raised in the Assembly it was learnt that the state government had provided only Rs. 50,000 hence he had filed FIR with regard to alleged misused of covid funds.
