VPP’s expansion to Garo Hills would be a challenge for the NPP: Rakkam

SHILLONG, OCT 15: NPP leader and cabinet minister Rakkam A Sangma on Tuesday said that the VPP’s expansion to Garo Hills would be a challenge for the NPP.

Speaking to reporters, Rakkam said, “Every political party is designed with a specific purpose and agenda. Of course, it has been said by many it is not correct to isolate to particular region or a particular community. Therefore, I think our friend VPP has understood the beauty of the state. Therefore the momentum, the wave they have created in the last MP election in Shillong has really given them energy and the momentum (to reach out to the people in Garo Hills).”

He said, “Its good but they expanding their wings to the Garo Hills, yes, of course we know as a political, it will be a challenge for us the NPP also.”

Rakkam claimed that many leaders from both the Congress and the TMC in Garo Hills are also in talks to join the VPP.

“May be of course if they really worked well, it will be really a challenge for us to also that we also understand but we will decide tomorrow (on the matter). Election is election, politics is politics but yes, definitely we welcome (their expansion) as with this exercise, the people’s perspective…of certain colours will also go away. So its a good move,” he said.

Asked, Rakkam said, “I keep on saying earlier in 2012, people say NCP is a Garo party. Does anybody say today like that. It is not. It depends on how leaders work and inspire the people. May be VPP have to prove wrong of people thinking of different colours. It is a good move and going to Garo Hills with all this momentum will really be a challenge for us. Let us see tomorrow.”
