MEGHALAYA NEWS 24 EXCLUSIVE
With a hope that the Boundary Dispute issue will get solved before the celebration of the 75th anniversary of Independence, a delegation of United Democratic Party (UDP) led by its working President Bindo M Lanong, and its leader Jemino Mawthoh today called on BJP legislator and cabinet Minister in MDA Government in the state, Alexander Laloo Hek to discuss about the vexed boundary dispute issue with Assam.
UDP along with BJP together decided to move forward to get the issues resolved.
Breaking the ice, BJP legislator and cabinet Minister in Meghalaya Alexander Laloo Hek has taken upon himself to initiate official dialogues with Assam Government on Interstate Boundary Row.
Hek on Saturday met Assam Chief Minister Himanta Bishwasarma at Guwahati and discussed resuming the CM level talk between these two states.
“Both UDP and BJP are parts of the state Government , we are not different from the MDA Government , we are one only….we are concern of the border dispute in our state therefore I met Himanta Bishwasarma so I personally as a BJP I went to meet our BJP leader Assam cm to resolve the issue,” the Health Minister said.
Asked , he said,” this is the intention of the NDA Government only under the leadership of our honourable PM Shri Narendra Modi ji and also Amit Shah ji. They want to resolve the issue before we celebrate the independence of our country. “
The aim is to resolve the issue before India celebrates its 75th Independence Day and keep the ball rolling before the state celebrates Statehood.
“……this is the intention of the NDA Government only under the leadership of our honourable PM shri Narendra Modi ji and also Amit Shah ji they want to resolve the issue before we celebrate the independence of our country,” Hek said adding that the aim is to let the ball rolling even before the Golden Jubilee celebration of the state.
Meanwhile, UDP working president, Bindo M Lanong said,”… Last year we met the chief Minister on this matter, we had a joint delegation of UDP and HSPDP, we met the chief Minister on two three issues, one of the issue is the boundary and the Chief Minister we have given him in writing also , so we request him to take up the matter with the then chief minister of Assam so I hope he has taken up because after that we did not get any response from him…”
Union home minister Amit Shah in January last urged all the states in the region to solve their boundary disputes by August 15, 2022, when the country will be celebrating 75 years of its Independence.
Talking about this initiative Lanong said, “…..we heard from Hek it’s also the equal responsible initiative and the desire of the centre at least to bring in a permanent solution to boundary dispute in the country.”
He further added that continuing dispute with neighbouring states will spoil the relationship
“….this initiative has come from the centre and I think we have to respond in a positive way,” he added.
Appreciating chief Minister Conrad Sangma for keeping the ball moving, UDP leader Jemino Mawthoh said, “….whether it’s official or unofficial the dialogue process is going on, this is a long pending issue which needs to be resolved.. “
He also said that the vexed issue has affected the interstate relationship.
