375 nominations found valid after scrutiny in Meghalaya

A total of 375 nominations were found to be valid after the scrutiny process was conducted successfully in all 12 districts across 60 ACs of Meghalaya on Wednesday.

Meghalaya Chief Electoral Officer FR Kharkongor on Wednesday said post scrutiny against 379 nominations filed, 4 nominations were found invalid.

“While 339 are male candidates, the number of female candidates are 36,” Kharkongor said.

“Four nominations (3 male and one female) were found invalid — 3 candidates in East Jaintia Hills and one candidate in West Jaintia Hills — as they were deemed as dummy candidates. Three of them are from the NPP and one from the UDP,” he added.

The maximum number of candidates filed nomination in East Khasi Hills, followed by West Garo Hills.

The last date for withdrawal of candidature is February 10. The elections will be held on February 27 while the votes will be counted on March 2.
