Meghalaya TMC demands action against the perpetrator involved in attacking its workers at Charbatapara in Phulbari, West Garo Hills, on Tuesday night.

In a statement issued by AITC Meghalaya, the party alleged, “…. in a shameful and unscathed display of its brawniness, the National People’s Party (NPP) workers have resorted to attacking the Meghalaya TMC workers…”

“ The attack took place at around 10.30 pm at the residence of one of the party workers named Nozrul Hoque when NPP workers vandalised the premises where a meeting was being conducted by the party,” the statement said.

Hoque, yet reeling under severe injuries, said, “They (NPP) workers came in a group and started attacking and destroying my property, bamboo walls, tables, chairs with logs and stones. They also pelted stones and bricks.” He further added that the MDC of Shyamnagar, Habibuz Zaman aka Kasa stopped near his house when his workers pelted stones injuring four TMC workers. Mr. Hoque is currently admitted to the Phulbari CHC Hospital undergoing treatment.

An FIR has been submitted by one Nozim Hussain, S/o (L) Abdul S K, R/o Charbatapara, alleging that one procession led by Habibuz Zaman stopped near his house and pelted stones at his house due to which 4 persons were injured. As per the report of the DEO, the reason for the clash was that while Zaman and his supporters were passing through the village, a few TMC supporters hit their Scorpio vehicle which led to the scuffle.

Meanwhile, the Chief Electoral Officer FR Kharkongor said  2 cognizable cases were registered by the police and 125 persons have been bounded over.

“In connection with last night’s incident, apart from the registration of 2 cognizable cases, 125 persons have been bound over by police today. Court has issued notice for appearance tomorrow. They will be made to execute bonds,” Kharkongor said.

“Arrests will be undertaken,” he added.
