Leader of Opposition Ronnie V Lyngdoh on Monday informed that five more CHCs and 33 PHCs are required to be set up in East Khasi Hills District to improve health care sector in the District.
According to him, the information was given during a meeting convened by the Minister in-charge Health and Family Welfare Ampareen Lyngdoh with MLAs from the district.
He said, “Presently in East Khasi Hills, there are 8 CHCs and five more are required to be set up as per norms. As far as PHC is concerned, we have 38 presently and we require 33 more to be set up.”
Ronnie said that in his Mylliem constituency, there is only one PHC at Pomlum, which is catering to the health care of the entire constituency. He said the department has agreed that as per norm, Mylliem constituency, which has over 80,000 population, should have a CHC.
The Leader of Opposition also informed that issues related to the agriculture department were also flagged during the meeting convened by Ampareen, who is also in-charge of the department.
Ronnie said there is a need to incentivise the farmers to adopt organic farming. “It will not only improve them economically, raise their income, in fact we are going to have a healthy population if the food we consume is healthy.”
